PROGRAM # 8609 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

Mexican engineers can build the new oil refinery proposed by President López Obrador, but even if we put all the effort, it is not possible to do it in three years or 8 billion pesos, said a leader of professionals in the oil industry, who calculated that at least 6 billion dollars more are required and another year and a half of work. Also, the engineer, who supervises oil platforms, expressed his doubts that the municipality of Dos Bocas in Paraíso, Tabasco, is the best place to build the refining plant that is planned, since it is a densely populated area. In addition, the government has not yet published the environmental impact studies. That is why he asks the president to review proposals for alternative sites, such as Tula in Hidalgo, Huimanguillo, also in Tabasco, or Poza Rica in Veracruz. This and other topics are discussed in this program. Martha Elena Ramírez, hosts this Voz Pública program from Mexico City.

Guests: (recorded interviews) Engineer Pablo López Figueroa, General Secretary of the Union of Oil Technicians and Professionals, Paraíso, Tabasco; Miguel Martínez Peralta, President of the Council of Agricultural Laborers of the Mountain in Guerrero, Mexico City.
