PROGRAM # 8539 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

While in October 2018 the government of Guerrero eliminated the state law that recognized community police as legal, these law enforcement agencies will continue operating in the 240 towns where they operate, reported a regional leader who spent four years in prison for commanding that group in the city of Ayutla. Also, the police leader indicated that they do not need the National Guard, a national police institution proposed by President López Obrador, and stressed that in any case they should be consulted, because indigenous peoples’ rights are protected by the Constitution. In addition, in this edition, organizations from 23 states, coalesced in the National Observatory of Feminicide, said that only 30 percent of murders committed against women are perpetrated by someone known to the victim, and that the remaining 70 percent is executed by organized crime gangs. Activists from Guerrero, Chiapas, Chihuahua, Nuevo León and Mexico City, give an overview of feminicidal violence in the country. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts this Voz Pública program from Mexico City.
