Days before the vacation period, Mexico’s Supreme Court suspended a law signed by the new government establishing that no public official will get a salary higher than 108,000 pesos a month, which is the amount that the nation’s President will receive as a salary. With this measure, the ministers, judges, magistrates, and members of the INE and CNDH, will retain their high salaries and benefits. The 11 members of the Supreme Court are the most benefited since their income is around 600 thousand pesos per month. The problem, says a lawyer, is not only the high salaries but the great inefficiency of the judicial power. In Mexico, the levels of impunity reach 90 percent due to the arrogance and corruption of those in charge of administering justice and to the fact that many of its members are linked to political leaders.
