Mexico Edition.
President López Obrador announced a vast program of social support comprising: scholarships, pensions and credits to reactivate the rural areas and to finance small producers. His speech was given in the main plaza (or Zócalo) of Mexico City when he took possession of the presidency. The event was very festive and was backed up by ample popular participation. There, the federal executive was purified under a Mayan ritual and received a command baton, a symbol of power in the indigenous worldview. Besides first measures like annulling the pensions of the ex-presidents and putting the presidential plane on sale, Obrador announced the release of political prisoners and the creation of a truth commission to investigate the disappearance of the 43 Ayotzinapa students. Finally, he indicated that any act of theft against the nation’s property and any electoral fraud will be considered a serious offense without bail. In this edition, citizens show their confidence to the new president. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts this broadcast, of the Voz Pública program, from Mexico City.
