PROGRAM # 8489 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

With thirty million votes and in his third attempt, tomorrow a political leader of center-left will assume the presidency of Mexico. Originally from the state of Tabasco, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, will receive the presidential band before Mexico’s Congress. Hours later, there will be public celebrations outside the National Palace, in the Zócalo, the main square where years ago he and his party denounced an electoral fraud, and asked for the recounting of votes. However, not everything is celebration. In the past AMLO criticized the involvement of the military in public security tasks, today, with its Law to create a National Guard, it will not only legalize the actions of the militia in public security matters, but additionally, all the decisions will be made by him without consulting Congress, which is contrary to the mandates of Mexico’s Constitution. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts this broadcast, of the Voz Pública program, from Mexico City.

Guests: (taped interview) Tania Reneau, Executive Director of Amnesty International in Mexico. (Pre-recorded audios) Jaime Cárdenas Gracia, Doctor in Constitutional Law, former member of the National Electoral Institute (INE); In 2013, he promoted the petition for popular consultation against the energy reform, and in 2018 an Unconstitutionality Action against the Internal Security Law, both before the Supreme Court of the Nation; José Francisco Gallardo Rodríguez, Former Brigadier General of the Mexican Army and Doctor in Public Administration from the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the UNAM. He was a political prisoner, from 1993 to 2002.
