Mexico Edition.

Mexican community groups met this week with Mexican elected officials in a bi-national forum to discuss issues relevant to Mexican and Central American migrants and propose plans to the incoming administration of President-elect López Obrador. Among the projects, the convened assembly members proposed better regulations to promote the vote from Mexicans abroad, better political representation for Mexican migrants, migrant consuls, Mexico’s driver licenses for migrants in the US, and more support for bilingual education in indigenous languages. Listeners proposed that Mexico recognizes the economic contribution of Mexican emigres by establishing a pension fund. They also proposed to create an investment fund to develop rural communities and agriculture with capital provided by emigres, and to prioritize the battle against corruption and bribes.
