FRIDAY, JUNE 8
PROGRAM # 8355 12:00 PM PT
Mexico Edition.
After several days in Mexico City, León Fierro has been granted personal protection measures by the government. Fierro is the promoter of the “Mexicali Resiste” movement, which is credited with suspending the construction of the brewery Constellation Brands in Baja California. Fierro and several activists have been imprisoned and beaten up for opposing the privatization of water in their entity. Also, in this edition, Lorena Gutiérrez narrates the brutal murder of her daughter Fátima Varinia Quintana Gutiérrez, perpetrated in 2015. The minor of 12 years was raped and tortured by neighbors of her community, in the town of Lerma, state of Mexico. Despite the research work and the collection of evidence done by the mother herself, and the testimony of a number of witnesses, only one of the three involved was convicted. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts this broadcast, from the Voz Pública program, from Mexico City.
Guests: (recordings) León Fierro Reséndiz, activist of the “Mexicali Resiste” movement; Mrs. Lorena Gutiérrez Rangel, mother of Fátima Varinia Quintana Gutiérrez, México City.
