FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 2
PROGRAM # 8257 12:00 PM PT
Mexico Edition.
The forced disappearance of teenager Marco Antonio Sánchez Flores, at the hands of policemen in Mexico City, sparked protests from hundreds of students, citizens and civic organizations. Thanks to their pressure, hours later the young man was presented alive, although beaten and in a state of mental confusion. The high school student, whose images were disseminated on the Internet, appears with bruises on his face and without the clothes he wore when he was arrested. To date, Mayor Miguel Mancera has not clarified what happened to the student during the five days he was missing. The police officers who captured him for alleged robbery haven’t been arrested either. On other topic, in this edition, the Center for Human Rights Zeferino Ladrillero announces the creation of a Network of Citizen Monitors, whose work will be the observation and documentation of public demonstrations. The organization aims to deter possible acts of repression by the Mexican Army. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts this broadcast of the Voz Pública program, from Mexico City.
