Despite the call of national and international agencies to curb the law that legalizes the participation of the military in tasks of public security, the congressional majority that President Enrique Peña Nieto controls, approved the Domestic Security Law within a week. Thus, eleven years after former President Felipe Calderón involved the armed forces in tasks of surveillance and combat of drug trafficking activities, situation that generated more than 10 thousand 751 complaints filed against military elements, for committing extrajudicial executions, torture and arbitrary arrests, the administration of Enrique Peña Nieto decided to legalize its action. For his part, General Francisco Gallardo said that the new law has the purpose of inhibiting social protests and it seeks to secure foreign corporations oil and mining concessions that they hold in Mexico.
