FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 24
PROGRAM # 8207 12:00 PM PT
Mexico Edition.
The Mexican government will present itself as an accused before the International Criminal Court, which reviews the allegations of rape committed by police elements against 11 women in San Salvador Atenco. In the hearings of November 16 and 17, the plaintiffs described the participation of municipal, state, and federal police in their arbitrary detentions. They also denounced they suffered excessive use of force, and sexual harassment. The plaintiffs also assured that at all times the uniformed officers acted in a coordinated manner and following instructions. The complainants specified that during their incarceration, the prison authorities denied them their right to denounce and certify the sexual attack they suffered, leaving them in legal defenselessness. After 11 years of the operation that left two people dead and almost 300 detained, the case reaches the court because the Mexican State ignored, on four occasions, the recommendation of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to investigate and deliver justice on this case. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts this broadcast of the Voz Pública program, from Mexico City.
Guests: (Audios) Suhelen Cuevas Jaramillo, Baja California Sur; Claudia Hernández Martínez; Bárbara Italia Méndez; Miguel Ruiz Cabañas, Assistant Secretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights, of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mexico. Stephanie Erin Brewer, activist of the Centro de Derechos Humanos Miguel Agustín Pro Juárez.
