FRIDAY, JUNE 30
PROGRAM # 8100 12:00 PM PT
Mexico Edition.
Nearly eight years after the assassination of Mariano Abarca Robledo, who led the resistance against mining in his community, the Canadian company Blackfire Explorationhas resumed the extraction of barite in the municipality of Chicomuselo, Chiapas, reported their relatives. In view of this, and since the murder continues unpunished, environmental organizations asked the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights to rule on the lack of justice for the family and the collusion of the Mexican government with Canadian diplomats, since Mexican officials favored the Canadian Company despite the damage it caused to the population and the ecosystem. Also in this edition, the Mexican Supreme Court will review the request filed by Juchitecan groups regarding the construction of more wind farms in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts this broadcast of the program Voz Pública, from Mexico City.
Guests: (prerecorded interviews) José Luis Abarca Montejo, son of the environmentalist assassinated in 2009, Chicoluselo, Chiapas; María Isabel Jiménez Salinas, spokeswoman for the Juchiteco people. Juchitán, Oaxaca; (audio segments) Libertad Díaz, Otros Mundos Posibles A.C., Miguel Ángel de los Santos Cruz, Faculty of Law of the Autonomous University of Chiapas; Gustavo Lozano Guerrero, Red Mexicana de Afectados por la Minería.
