FRIDAY, JUNE 9
PROGRAM # 8085 12:00 PM PT
Mexico Edition.
We reach the eighth anniversary of the fire that engulfed the ABC daycare center in Hermosillo, Mexico, which left 49 children dead and 80 seriously injured. Those implicated in the disaster have not faced punishment, and standardized security measures haven’t been set either. From the time of the catastrophe until now, 60 other children have died in daycare centers, without the government reporting the deaths. To protest this facts, a group of parents installed in front of the offices of the IMSS a metal structure with the number 49 and ABC, to remember that justice has not been carried. They said that burned children are treated free of charge by the Shriners hospital in the United States, and that minors with lung damage are not yet receiving medical attention in Mexico. In addition, in this edition, beekeepers from Hopelchén, Campeche, denounce the Monsanto company’s refusal to withdraw its crops of genetically modified soybeans, despite the Supreme Court’s order. They point out that the government protects the transnational corporation. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts this broadcast of the Voz Pública program, from Mexico City.
Guests: (audio recordings) Julio Márquez Ortiz and Estela Báez Gill, parents of Yeyé; Julia Escalante; Martha Dolores, mother of Santiago de Jesus; María de Jesús Coronado Padilla, mother of Paulette Daniela, Marina Othón Espinosa, mother of Juan Carlos and Ana Sofía Rodríguez Othón, from the group of parents of the children injured at the daycare center: Guardería ABC; Leydi Araceli Pech Martín, beekeeper of Hopelchen, Campeche.
