FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16
PROGRAM # 7882 12:00 PM PT
Mexico Edition.
In the anniversary of its Independence, México faces low oil prices and the devaluation of the peso against the U.S. dollar. The economic boom that Peña Nieto promised when he was promoting his energy reform is null. Today the government has decided to allocate more than 50 percent of the country’s resources to pay interest on the public debt. According to allegations, what has grown due to Peña’s reforms, was the abuse of domestic and foreign companies, which are appropriating sources of water and the land of the native people to open highways, install hydroelectric power plants, wind turbines, and to start the exploitation of open pit mines. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts this edition of Voz Pública, from Mexico City
Guests: (Audio recordings) Citizens: Miriam Rodríguez Arvizu; professor Silvia Cruz Bernal; Víctor Rosales; Manuel Hernández; Damiana Lorena Rhon; Elena Villafuerte, from Proyecto de Derechos Económicos y Culturales (Prodesc)
