PROGRAM # 7782 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

For the sixth year in a row, mothers looking for their missing children arrive in Mexico’s capital city from different states. They report hostility and inefficiency of judicial authorities who have tried to give them remains of people who are not their children. Faced with government indifference, some family members are only asking to find the dead. They want the truth, even if they don’t get justice. They have made proposals to elaborate a Law against Forced Disappearances in Mexico’s Congress, and they say they will take the subject to the U.N. and the Interamerican Commission on Human Rights. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts Voz Pública from Mexico City.

Guests: Blanca Martínez, member, Centro Diocesano para los Derechos Humanos “Fray Juan de Larios”, and activist with Fuerzas Unidas por nuestros desparecidos en Coahuila. Zita Loyo, activist and member, Comité Cerezo México; (segments of audio) Julio Mata Montiel, Asociación de Familiares Detenidos Desaparecidos; Nancy Rosete, Deudos y Defensores por la Dignidad, Mexico City.
