Responding to the government’s refusal to conduct a national public consultation on whether to allow foreign companies to participate in the Mexican oil industry, the opposition leader Andrés Manuel López Obrador announced a peaceful civil resistance. Obrador calls for blocking off legislative chambers across the country, a boycott of the Televisa television network and Soriana stores, and to refuse paying electricity bills or the new tax.
