PROGRAM # 7687 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

This year, like every year, advocates for Mumia Abu-Jamal are protesting, calling for his freedom. Abu-Jamal has been in prison for 34 years, and from the inside he produces a radio program, Live from Death Row. He is accused of killing a police officer in Philadelphia. His advocates say he did not commit any crime and was imprisoned for his journalistic work and his political ideas. Also in this edition, members of the National Movement for Self-Defense of the Republic, in Mexico, report that they presented an amnesty bill in Mexico’s Congress to free more than 480 members of self-defense groups jailed in the state of Michoacán. Also, an indigenous man, Juan Collazo, speaks about his days in a prison in the state of Chiapas. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts Voz Pública from Mexico City.

Guests: Carolina Bt, Representative, Amigos de Mumia, Ciudad de México; Antonio Magaña, President, Movimiento Nacional por la Autodefensa de la República; Juan Collazo, San Juan Chamula, Chiapas.
