FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4.
PROGRAM # 7602 12:00 PM PT
Mexico Edition.
After 35 years making shoes, the Sandak companu, affiliated with the transnational company Bata, is preparing to sell its industrial facility and lay off its workers. Though there is a labor lawsuit, workers accuse the government of Tlaxcala of collusion and holds them responsible for a worker who died while being evacuated from the factory, and a union leader who is in prison. Also on this edition, the social advocate Estanislao García speaks about environmental services that the Milpa Alta delegation is giving to Mexico City. His testimony makes us reflect on that vast rural woodsy region, where residents defend the communal property of land and oppose urban spread. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts Voz Pública from Mexico City.
Guests: María de los Ángeles Cortez López, Sindicato Único de Trabajadores de Sandak, Tlaxcala, Tlaxcala; Estanislao García Olivos, comunero de San Pedro Actopan, Milpa Alta, DF. (Pretaped)
