FRIDAY, JUNE 12.
PROGRAM # 7542 12:00 PM PT
Mexico Edition.
For the first time in history, an independent candidate was elected as governor in the mid-term federal elections in Mexico, but power remains mostly in the hands of traditional political parties. In the southern states of Guerrero, Oaxaca, and Chiapas, the call to stop the elections failed, while nationally, the option of the null vote ended up allowing parties to conserve their registration and obtain a bigger subsidy, according to election law. The Morena Party, led by center-left candidate Andrés Manuel López Obrador, made a successful debut (though localized), winning the majority in the capital city’s legislative assembly. A live interview is also included with a spokesman for the Binational Michoacan Front, who says he is sure that governor-elect Silvano Aureoles Conejo will fulfill agreements made with Michoacanos living in the U.S. Martha Elena Ramírez hosts the program Voz Pública from Mexico City.
Guest: Francisco Moreno, Coordinator, Frente Binacional Michoacano in California.
