TUESDAY, DECEMBER 27
PROGRAM # 7962 12:00 PM PST.

Drought and Health Crisis.

Due to the extreme drought, hundreds of wells went dry and many residents have been without water in California’s San Joaquin Valley. And when water is scarce, the community may face a number of maladies, including poorer personal and food hygiene, more contamination of drinking water, more infectious diseases and a mental health crisis. Advocates from a hard-hit area comment on the public health crisis brought by the drought. Also, an analyst discusses the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act, a water bill designed to help reduce the effects of the drought crisis in California. The bill gives more water to San Joaquin Valley farmers, but what’s in it for farmworking families and communities?

Guests: Noe Páramo, Co-Director, Sustainable Rural Communities Project, California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation, Modesto, CA; Irma Medellin, Executive Director, El Quinto Sol, Lindsay, CA; Dr. Mario Celaya, Physician, Clinica Vida Sana, Lindsay, CA.
