California’s Drought Emergency.
As California went through its driest year in almost 100 years, Gov. Newsom expanded the drought emergency to the entire state. With water reservoirs draining and water supplies for major cities drying, the governor asked Californians to do more to save water. What does the emergency proclamation mean for regular residents? Also, neighbors of Stratford, a small town in the San Joaquin Valley that’s been hard-hit by drought and excessive groundwater pumping, talk about their efforts to help this rural town survive.
California Moves to Ban Oil Wells. California seeks to ban oil drilling near communities, many of them of color. Gov. Newsom unveiled a plan to ban new permits for oil wells within 3,200 feet of homes, schools and hospitals. An expert in environmental health comments.
