PROGRAM # 9738 12:00 PM PT
The Colorado: A Drying River.
The Colorado River, the West’s largest water supply, is flowing with less and less water. Its reservoirs are drying up. And mega-drought, climate change and overuse are exacerbating the shortage crisis. To save the Colorado River, the seven Western states that depend on the river have to cut trillions of gallons of water and find new ways to share the river. But time is running out and there is no agreement on sight. How dire is the Colorado crisis? What went wrong with the current plan? What are the proposed plans on the table? How are the communities along the Basin expected to change in the near future? Guest analysts also comment on the push by Latinos to be part of the planning conversation, the efforts to restore and bring back to life the Colorado River Delta, and the impact of the water disaster on Mexican border communities.
Guests: Rebecca Mitchell, Director, Colorado Water Conservation Board, Denver, CO; Juan Roberto Madrid, Colorado Clean Transportation and Energy Policy Advocate, GreenLatinos, Denver, CO; Dr. Carlos de la Parra Rentería, Adviser to International Boundary and Water Commission, President, Restauremos el Colorado, Mexicali, MX; Jorge Figueroa, Co-Founder, River Sisters Initiative, Denver, CO.
