PROGRAM # 7960 12:00 PM PT

Mexico Edition.

The proposal for a green economy, promoted in the 1990s by environmental groups, was hijacked by governments and global corporations, to the extent that the global capitalist industry has not only evaded its responsibility for the devastation caused to the planet, but invented “the rights to pollute,” said the director of the German foundation Heinrich Boll, who visited Mexico to be part of the UN-sponsored Convention on Biological Diversity. Days before the event, held in Cancun, activists reflected on the applications of synthetic biology for commercial purposes and on the biocultural richness that populations of indigenous and farmers protect in their territories. Martha Elena Ramírez, hosts this broadcast of the program Voz Pública, from the Mexico City.

Guests: (audio recordings) Barbara Unmübig, director of the German foundation Heinrich Böll Stiftung; Verónica Villla, Grupo ETC; Catherine Marielle, Grupo de Estudios Ambientales y Sociales AC, Mexico City.
