Oil and Gas Air Pollution.
Oil and Gas Air Pollution. Methane emissions from the oil and gas industry are increasing and in addition to being one of the most “potent” greenhouse gasses that causes climate change, methane is also highly toxic for communities living nearby. One in three people in the United States lives in a county with oil and gas production. A proposed EPA rule requires oil and gas producers to reduce emissions of methane in the field. According to polls, these restrictions are widely favored by public opinion. The public comment period ends this week. A public health expert warns about the dangers of methane pollution to community health, especially during the pandemic, since Covid infections are sending to the hospital a large number of people with pre-existing respiratory conditions.
