Dangerous Air from Wildfires.
A number of homes burnt by a wildfire forcing the evacuation of a small town in the state of Washington. As the worst of the wildfire season may be still to come, how can neighboring communities prepare and protect against the bad air quality from the fires? Experts talk about how toxic is wildfire smoke, and the particularly damaging effect of toxic air pollution on the health of disadvantaged youth. This program includes tips on how to prepare for the fire season.
Guests: Elmer Diaz, Toxicologist, Washington State Department of Health, Olympia, WA; Eloísa Ugarte, Academic Researcher, Department of Human Ecology, Center for Mind and Brain, UC Davis, Davis, CA.
