PROGRAM # 8748 12:00 PM PT
Sustainable Farming.
On the holiday when families meet around the dinner table to have a meal and celebrate, this program features conversations celebrating healthy food and farming practices. First, and as small Latino farmers who own or rent land are growing in numbers and leading the way to a sustainable agriculture, a leading farmer shares his experience with use of cover crops and solar panels in the farm, among other changes. He is using conservation practices to prevent soil erosion, conserve water, ensure water and air quality, and reduce emissions, while maintaining efficiency and productivity.
Guest: Jorge Inestroza, Co-Owner, Tenalu Ranch, Porterville, CA.
Fast Food Chains Beef and Drugs. Antibiotics are overused in livestock production and this practice contributes to antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which makes infections harder to treat. Some top restaurant chains in the nation have already committed to raise chicken without routine antibiotic use. The cattle industry, though, is another story. An environmental and public health activist discusses the content of a report titled “Chain Reaction V: How Top Restaurants Rate on Reducing Antibiotic Use in their Beef Supplies.”
Guest: Linda Escalante, Legislative Director for Southern California, Natural Resource Defense Center, Santa Mónica, CA.
