IMMIGRATION REFORM: THE QUEST FOR A VOTE. ALSO, ACCUSED OF GENOCIDE.

tuesday-673x324

House Speaker John Boehner says he will not allow a vote on an immigration reform bill without majority support from Republicans. The clamor is growing within his own party to let the House vote on the issue. So far, about twenty Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives have said they would back a way to legalize undocumented immigrants with some path to citizenship. Meanwhile, a group of immigrants and allies make their way on foot toward Republican House Whip Kevin McCarthy’s offices to push for comprehensive immigration reform.

Guests: Carlos Gutiérrez, Chairman, Republicans for Immigration Reform, Washington, DC, http://www.republicansforimmigrationreform.org/ ; Mabell Valdez, Pilgrim, Pilgrimage for a Path to Citizenship, Merced, CA, www.pilgrimageforcitizenship.org

ALSO, ACCUSED OF GENOCIDE. The Permanent People’s Tribunal accuses Mexico, the United States and other governments in the region of propagating a culture of genocide that resulted in the death of 72 Central American migrants in Tamaulipas, among many others.

Guest: Camilo Pérez Bustillo, Coordinator of Migration, Refuge, and Forced Displacement for the Mexico Chapter of the Permanent People’s Tribunal, and Research Professor, Graduate Program in Human Rights, Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de México (UACM), Mexico City, Mexico.
