PROGRAM # 7783 12:00 PM PT
Immigration Emergency Rapid Response.
When ICE agents knocked on the door of Mexican immigrant David Gonzalez’ home in Los Angeles, his neighbor immediately called a local church pastor and an advocate. By the time Gonzalez was in custody at the local detention center, a network of calls had criss-crossed the city, a spontaneous citizen emergency system was in motion, and soon Gonzalez was back at home with his family. The key players tell this extraordinary story of neighbor-to-neighbor support in their own words. An advocate also comments on recent reports about federal plans to ramp up deportation raids against Central American families.
Guests: David González, Gardener, Detained Immigrant; Beatriz Orduña, Wife; Lindsay González, Daughter; Fred Morris, Pastor, United Methodist Church, North Hills, CA; Venancio, Neighbor; Ismael, Neighbor; Amanda Romero, No Están Solos, Welcome Center for Refugee Children, United Methodist Church, North Hills, CA.
