Immigration reform legislation is on hold while members of Congress spend their August recess in their districts. This month, reform supporters are holding hundreds of events around the country to increase Republican votes for a pathway to citizenship. The focus of the public events are influential congress members whose districts have large Latino constituencies, such as the House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy in California’s Central Valley, and the conservative district of Rep. Blake Farenthold from Texas, which is nearly 50 per cent Latino.
