TUESDAY, JUNE 22
PROGRAM # 9294 11:00 AM PDT
Extra Edition – Unaccompanied Minors; Reopening and Emotional Health.
Leaders from a farm working town in California’s Central Valley are preparing for increased arrivals of Central American unaccompanied kids as school officials set out to keep them at school and away from field work. A news reporter spoke with a young migrant from an earlier migration about the new life he found in the US. On another topic, a health care expert discusses Covid-19 impact on mental health, in particular the persisting mix of fear and anxiety people are feeling now that California is reopening, after more than a year under confinement because of the pandemic. Finally, a financial assistance program in Fresno called fondo de Matriarcas is distributing direct payments to elder undocumented women in need.
Guest: Nadia López, News Reporter, The Fresno Bee, Central Valley News Collaborative, Fresno, CA; Jennifer Hernandez, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Department of Mental Health, Los Angeles County, Los Angeles, CA; Genoveva Islas, Program Director, Cultiva La Salud, Fresno, CA.
