TUESDAY, JULY 4
PROGRAM # 8102 12:00 PM PST.
Immigration Edition.
The US House of Representatives passed two hard-line immigration bills. One would increase criminal penalties against immigrants who re-enter without authorization the US after being deported, and the other one would punish cities that may have sanctuary policies, and force them to honor immigration detainers. Also, advocates strongly condemn ICE plans to target undocumented parents of unaccompanied refugee children. Also, state officials from ten states, led by Texas, urged the Trump administration to terminate DACA and, if the administration doesn’t, they will include DACA in a lawsuit. An analyst comments on these developments, and on the economic costs for the nation of ending DACA.
Guest: Mark Silverman, Director of Immigration Policy, Immigration Legal Resource Center, San Francisco, CA.
The Birth of the US South West. In this archival program segment, a distinguished historian talks about the ideology, interests and policies among the US founding fathers that led to the territorial expansionism westward, the annexation of vast territories from Mexico, and the drawing of the current South West border.
Guest: Dr. Oscar J. Martinez, Regents’ Professor of History, Author, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ.
