Immigration Edition.
After the Biden-AMLO meeting in the White House, a journalist who attended the meeting reports on the talks on migration, including AMLO’s call for US immigration reform and more visas for temporary workers of diverse sectors. Also, two days after six county executives in Texas issued declarations of invasion, Texas gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order declaring that President Biden had failed to protect Texas “against invasion” at the border and authorized the Texas National Guard to arrest them and take them to the border for deportation. Meantime, the Justice Department is investigating Abbott’s multibillion-dollar Operation Lone Star initiative for possible civil rights violations. Also, a Washington correspondent reports on the latest hearing from the Jan. 6 committee this morning, which was expected to shed light on how white nationalist groups coordinated their participation in the insurrection and Capitol Hill attack. Finally, Mexico’s Attorney General office is investigating former President Peña Nieto on charges of money laundering. An expert on corruption and money laundering comments on this.
