Immigration Edition.
Latino members of Congress are urging President Biden to get immigration reform done this year by pushing for a simple majority under the budget reconciliation procedure. Others are calling for the end of the filibuster, which gives excessive power to the Senate’s minority. Analysts discuss the odds and the next steps ahead for immigration reform. A conservative advocate warns Democrats against going ahead on their own without compromising on border control. On other news the Biden administration announced the nomination of Sheriff Ed Gonzalez of Harris County, Texas, a known critic of Trump’s deportation raids, to lead the U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE).
Guests: Former Rep. Luis Gutiérrez, Chicago, IL; Israel Ortega, Spokesperson, LIBRE Initiative, Washington, DC; Dr. Gonzalo Santos, Associate Professor Emeritus of Sociology, CSU Bakersfield, Bakersfield, CA.
