Immigration Edition.

The US needs to substantially increase the number of immigrants each year to grow its competitive advantage and expand its future workforce. Without it, the US will sacrifice its position as the world’s largest economy and leave Social Security depleted, according to researchers at George Mason University. The co-author of the research explains the study and talks about how a combination of immigrants with a work visa and those sponsored by a family member are necessary due to their economic and social impact in the country. On another topic, lawmakers from both parties introduced a bill addressing the migrant influx at the border. The Bipartisan Border Solutions Act would establish regional processing centers to help expedited processing of asylum seekers. A border rights activist welcomes some pros of this initiative, points out that the main thing should be to offer dignified and humane treatment to children who arrive unaccompanied, and warns against putting DHS back in charge, instead of DHHS, and against accelarating the court procedures for migrants at the border. Finally, a political analyst examines President Biden’s immigration agenda during his first 100 days in office

Guests: Justin Gest, Associate Professor of Policy and Government, George Mason University, Fairfax, VA; Vicki B. Gaubeca, Director, Southern Border Communities Coalition (SBCC)’s, Tucson, AZ; Vanessa Cardenas, Political Strategist, Washington, DC.
