Congresswoman Norma Torres, the only Central American serving in Congress, is urging the White House to restrict foreign assistance to governments in Central America over corruption and authoritarianism. She proposes instead to channel aid to civil society and nongovernmental organizations. On this matter, she recently engaged in a heated exchange on Twitter with Salvadoran President Bukele. Torres comments on this and other topics, including the surge of apprehensions of migrant families at the border, the processing of migrant children, and the humanitarian crisis at the border. She also talks about the temporary agreement between the United States and Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala to stop migration.
