PROGRAM # 9132 12:00 PM PST

Immigration Edition.

In November, voters in two Georgia counties elected sheriff candidates who made campaign promises to end the 287(g) programs. This is the first time in decades that voters choose Democratic sheriffs and the feat is credited to local immigrants’ rights organizers who also helped elect a Democratic presidential candidate. On another topic: claiming that ICE escalated terror tactics during a major operation against sanctuary cities this year, immigrant advocates sued DHS and ICE to be allowed access to arrest records and related information for a number of ICE raids in sanctuary cities throughout the US and the way the agencies choose their “targets.” Finally, California Secretary of State Alex Padilla will become the first Latino senator of California after Gov. Newsom picked him to replace Kamala Harris. Padilla, an engineer by training, has always said his call in politics was due to the movement to fight Proposition 187. Analysts comment on these and more stories.

Guests: Adelina Nicholls, Executive Director, Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights, Atlanta, GA; Others TBA.
