Immigration Edition.

Tuesday_673x324 12TUESDAY, JULY 28
PROGRAM # 8958 12:00 PM PT

Immigration Edition.

President Trump signed an order that would prevent the undocumented from being counted when US congressional districts are redrawn during redistricting. Under this new policy, the Census Bureau would have to revise the enumeration from the 2020 Census to remove immigrants from each state’s count using data estimates. Advocates call the move a political theater intended to fire up the Republican political base and discourage immigrants from participating in the count. On other news, as a federal court ruled that the Trump Administration must fully restore the DACA program, including renewals and new applications, after the Supreme Court decided five weeks ago that the termination of the program was illegal, the administration released a memo rejecting new DACA and advance parole applications and restricting DACA renewals. Finally, California rethinks its testing strategy and announces plans to increase access to Covid-19 for communities that are at highest risk and are hardest hit. A distinguished Latino epidemiologist co-chairs the team that leads the battle against the pandemic in the state.

Guests: Rosalba Piña, Immigration Law Expert, Chicago, IL; Lizette Escobedo, Director, National Census Program, NALEO, Los Angeles, CA; Dr. Gilbert Chávez, Co-Chair, Covid-19 State Testing Task Force, Sacramento, CA (Recording).
