PROGRAM # 8806 12:00 PM PT
Immigration Edition.
Faced with the threat of being deported after an immigration check-in, a father of four who has lived in the US for 20 years decided to take sanctuary at a Denver church. On other news, Japanese American survivors of the internment camps during WWII protests the incarceration of immigrants at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, Washington, on the anniversary of the Day of Remembrance, the day that commemorates the signing of the infamous Executive Order which forced the incarceration of tens of thousands. And a bill in Washington State would restrict immigration agents inside or near state courts. Finally, the giant of the prison industry GEO Group is requesting the Mexican-American city of McFarland to allow the company to incarcerate hundreds of more immigrants in local prisons; angry residents oppose these plans saying they are in violation of current state laws. These and other news are discussed with policy experts.
