PROGRAM # 8741 12:00 PM PT

Immigration Edition.

The US immigration agency plans to dramatically increase the fees for people who apply for naturalization, for DACA, and, for the first time ever, for political asylum. A legal expert talks about what this new barrier means for immigrants and the new citizens. An advocate also comments on the growing number of migrant children in government custody, and a push in Congress to provide mental health care for traumatized asylum seekers. Joining from a rally in front of the White House, the border activist talks about a new bill in Congress to improve oversight of federal law enforcement agencies along the border in order to address the “crisis of human rights and pattern of impunity” that pervades the area.

Guests: Fernando Garcia, Executive Director, Border Network for Human Rights, El Paso, TX; Attorney Rosalba Piña, Immigration Law Expert, Chicago, IL
