Immigration Edition.

Tuesday_673x324TUESDAY, AUGUST 20
PROGRAM # 8676 12:00 PM PT

Immigration Edition.

Jose Bello, an immigrant activist imprisoned for three months after reciting a poem against family separations at a public forum, was released from an ICE detention center in Central California once NFL players helped pay the bail. José and his lawyer talk about his poem, his detention, his case, and the help he got from football stars. On other story: after ICE conducted its largest single-state raid in US history, hundreds of migrant families in Mississippi were left devastated. Community organizations are now rallying to help children and detained poultry workers with emergency legal aid and other assistance. Finally, authorities in Tulare county are hosting a Truth Forum as mandated by California law to hear from neighbors about instances of local collaboration with ICE deportations.

Guests: José Bello, Poet, Farmworker, Activist, Bakersfield, CA; Stephanie Padilla, Staff Attorney, ACLU of Southern California, Kern County Office, Bakersfield, CA; Luis Espinosa, Organizer, Mississippi Immigrant Rights Alliance, Jackson, MI; Juliana Manzanarez, Staff Attorney, Ybarra Maldonado Law Group, Pro Bono Lawyer for Migrants, Phoenix, AZ.
