On his reelection campaign kick off rally, President Trump promised to escalate immigrant raids and detentions and deport millions. Sanctuary congregations are responding by preparing rapid-response plans and other advocates are targeting the technology that enables mass raids. Also, in a court hearing in San Francisco, the Trump administration argued that the government is not required to give soap or toothbrushes to children arrested at the US-Mexico border and can have them sleep on concrete floors in overcrowded cells. Meanwhile, journalists report from El Paso about detention centers where children are forced to care for infants and are held in life-threatening conditions, with inadequate food and water.
