TUESDAY, MAY 14
PROGRAM # 8606 12:00 PM PT
Immigration Edition.
The Trump administration is moving forward with a proposed regulation, which would eliminate fee waivers for immigrants who apply for citizenship and other forms of immigration relief, a move that critics called the building of a “Second Wall” against citizenship. On other news, ICE is holding more than 200 million in bond funds paid for immigrants who were in custody; many may never see their money back. On other news, a detained immigrant, interviewed by phone from within the detention center, accuses the company that manages the prison of mistreatment and medical negligence. Finally, as a federal court ruled in favor of the Trump administration’s policy forcing asylum seekers to remain in Mexico until their asylum cases get a court date, advocates introduced a new legal challenge to Trump’s actions against those who apply for asylum at ports of entry. These and other stories are discussed in this edition.
Guests: Rosalba Piña, Attorney, Expert on Immigration and Citizenship Law, Chicago, IL; Pablo Cisneros Martinez, Detained Immigrant, and his wife Maribel (audio); Sarah Rich, Senior Staff, Southern Poverty Law Center, Atlanta, GA.
