TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19
PROGRAM # 8546 12:00 PM PT
Immigration Edition.
The US House and Senate voted on a funding package deal to avoid a federal shutdown, giving more money for detention beds and building border barriers. Trump signed the spending bill and then declared a national emergency to get additional funding for his border wall. In response, California, New York and other 14 states sued the Trump administration alleging that the crisis is manufactured and the appropriation of funds for the wall is unconstitutional. On other news, in North Carolina, civil rights groups denounce retaliatory ICE mass raids in cities with sheriffs who ended cooperation with federal authorities; and say the raids have caused family separation, fear and uncertainty.
Guests: Xavier Becerra, Attorney General, State of California, Sacramento, CA (Audio Segment); Daniel Costa, Director of Immigration Law and Policy Research, Economic Policy Institute, Washington, D.C.; Irena Como, Senior Staff Attorney, ACLU of North Carolina, Raleigh, NC
