Immigration Edition.

Tuesday_673x324TUESDAY, JANUARY 8
PROGRAM # 8516 12:00 PM PT

Immigration Edition.

On the 18th day of the government shutdown and as Trump sticks to his demand for a 5-billion wall, announcing a televised live address tonight, some in his party call for a bipartisan agreement, trading funding for the wall in exchange for protection of DACA beneficiaries or immigration reform. Also, in Wisconsin, governor-elect Tony Evers seeks to restore driver licenses and in-state college tuition for immigrant families in his proposed budget. And in the Northwest, activists watch the possible arrival to Tacoma’s detention center of the first Honduran migrant caravan members who asked for asylum at the border, and, on other news, they protest the technology corporation Amazon, which is headquartered in Seattle, for their willingness to collaborate with ICE in developing new facial recognition technologies against immigrants.

Guests: Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Executive Director, Voces de la Frontera, Milwaukee, WI; Maru Mora Villalpando, Director, Latino Advocacy, Organizer, Northwest Detention Center Resistance, Tacoma, WA.
