Immigration Edition.

Warning that the president does not have the authority to rewrite immigration laws, a federal judge blocked the Trump administration from banning asylum seekers who cross the border through areas that are not official points of entry. Also, Memphis reporter Manuel Durán, who has been detained by ICE for seven months, is facing deportation after an immigration court denied his appeal. Journalist and civil rights groups say Manuel is being persecuted for doing his job and seek his release. On other story, immigrant rights advocates seek answers about collaboration with ICE from a local Sheriff during a TRUTH forum. California’s TRUTH Act requires local governments to hold community forums to report on their instances of collaboration with ICE. And an official with links to alleged hate groups is being considered by the Senate to head ICE. Finally, social leaders urge the new House of Representatives to pass and send to the Senate legislation to bring relief to recipients of DACA and TPS. These and other stories are discussed in this edition.
