Farmworker Champion.

Leading filmmaker and TV and music producer David Damian Figueroa is being honored this week with the Dolores Huerta Award for his work championing the rights of farmworkers through the arts. As a publicity artist, he helped grow the career of music greats like Tito Puente and La India, oversaw social campaigns for civil rights and health care reform. He produced the acclaimed documentaries Food Chains and The Harvest.

“Tell me your Name.” Written and performed by Irma Herrera, Tell Me Your Name is a live monologue that the narrator uses to poke fun at her life growing up in a segregated town in South Texas and the battles to be heard by a mainstream society that pushes her to give up some parts of her identity. A new edition of this performance will premiere in Fresno.
