Some of the school districts in California are getting extra money to change existing discipline codes and reduce students’ suspensions and expulsions. Schools are using funds under local control plans to improve supporting services for foster, low-income and immigrant kids. Experts talk about the alternatives school districts have when it comes to school discipline, how the system needs to change to better accommodate the residents in their community, especially when there are families who don’t understand English.
