California School Reopening.

Governor Newsom unveiled a new plan to resume in-person instruction, especially for the youngest students, and those facing serious learning challenges, including poor students. The governor’s plan to reopen schools comes with a 2 billion aid package to help pay for PPE, Covid testing, and other safety measures. A leader of school workers is skeptic that the plan includes enough funding to pay for vaccines for all and ensure a Covid-free environment in the school community.

Guest: Max Arias, Executive Director, SEIU Local 99, Los Angeles, CA.

How to Cope with the Pandemic Blues. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues hitting California, many suffer the loss of a family member or friend. The grief is compounded by isolation at home and the worries about the future: job losses, overdue rents and mortgages, medical bills, and lost health insurance. How to cope with the feelings of grief, loneliness, anxiety and stress? How to take care of children who suffer learning loss and less preventive care during the pandemic? A leader of public mental health discusses tips for coping, among them the steps to develop emotional intelligence and the need to practice self-care in order to be able to care for others.

Guest: Dr. Jorge Partida del Toro, Chief of Psychology, County of Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA.
