TUESDAY, JUNE 28.
PROGRAM # 7814 12:00 PM PT
Mexico Edition.
Although discussions are underway between the protesting teachers and the federal government, Mexico’s president Enrique Peña Nieto reiterates that his administration’s education reform is “not negotiable.” Teachers are still protesting in four states and have 37 barricades of highways in Oaxaca, where police repression left 11 people dead in Nochixtlán. Andrés Manuel López Obrador organized a huge demonstration in support of the teachers. Saying the regime is decomposing, he called on Peña Nieto to build a transition for the 2018 elections. Parents of the 43 missing students from Ayotzinapa also protested outside the national attorney’s office. Martha Elena Ramirez hosts Voz Publica from Mexico City.
Guests: Gonzalo Martínez Villagrán, member, Comisión de Negociación de la Coordinadora Nacional de Trabajadores de la Educación, Sección 9; Audio: Andrés Manuel López Obrador: members of the Movimiento de Regeneración Nacional (Morena) party; parents of missing Ayotzinapa students: Emiliano Navarrete; Enrique Enríquez, Sección 9 CNTE; Melitón Ortega and Felipe de la Cruz.
