For the first time in years, public schools in California are receiving an influx of additional funds to improve classrooms and hire staff thanks to Proposition 30, a tax law passed by state voters last year. Community College administrators say Prop 30 is pumping hundreds of millions of dollars into their institutions. How are schools and colleges spending the new money? ALSO CALIFORNIA DOMESTIC WORKERS BILL OF RIGHTS ADVANCES. After an uphill battle of 7 years, the California legislature approved last week overtime wages and other protections for an estimated 200,000 home-based employees in the state. The bill now awaits the signature of Governor Brown. A lead organizer in the movement for better working conditions shares how they pushed this year’s bill to success.
