Dreamer and Biomedical Scientist.
A conversation with Dreamer Yuriana Aguilar, the first undocumented to graduate as a Ph.D. in the history of her high-ranked college and who is currently studying cells and functions of the heart in a prestigious research institution. With only a DACA work permit, Yuriana has been overcoming a number of challenges in her progress as a scientist. She talks about her dream of creating “a hospital guided by science” in California’s Central Valley and the moment when she “ventured into the lion’s den” when she visited the US Congress as a special guest.

Sanctuary State Bill Moving Forward. A key committee in the state Assembly is about to vote on The California Values Act. If passed, this bill would make California the first sanctuary state. This is a brief report.
